2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Highland Home finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Highland Home just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 1A region three with a 2-4 region record. Since 2010, Highland Home has gone a combined 34-39. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 1A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Highland Home has managed to compile a record of 150-136. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 1A and 166th in the AHSAA. Gregg Baker leaves Highland Home after two years with identical 3-7 campaigns. Phillip Coggins will take overt the football program at Highland Home for the 2017 season. Coggins was the defensive coordinator and assistant athletic director at Wetumpka High School. In his 13th year of coaching, he has also had careers at Verbena High School and Chilton County High. The Highland Home Flying Squadron will play in Class 1A region three during the 2017 season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Flying Squadron could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region three this season. Highland Home has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2013 but hope to return to the post season this year. The Flying Squadron open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Luverne on Friday, September 1 at Clay Stadium. Last year the Luverne Tigers finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in fourth place in Class 2A region three. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Aliceville by a score of 47-14. Highland Home and Luverne have met a total of 87 times on the football field. The Flying Squadron have a 18-66-3 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2016 with Luverne winning by a score of 20-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
